Charity Golf Classic 2008 for Health
raises a record $85,000 for health care

Good Spirit Golf & Family Resort - June 12, 2008

A record total of just over $85,000 was raised this year, thanks to fabulous support from the golfers, generous sponsors, and pledge donors. The funds will be used to purchase equipment for 16 health facilities in 13 communities in the health region, listed below.

This is the ninth annual Charity Golf Classic. The event has now raised close to $490,000 in support of local healthcare. That is a credit to the golfers who raise funds by asking people to pledge them, and our sponsors.

Fundraising Awards


Top Fundraiser: Linda Koroluk of CAA Travel presented the first prize, an all-expense paid trip for two to New York, to the top fundraiser. CAA sponsors the full cost of the trip, as they have in the previous years with other trips given as prizes. This year’s winner is Chris Wyatt, raising $3,805.


Second Fundraiser: The second top fundraiser wins a romantic getaway for two at the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa in Moose Jaw. The second highest fundraiser is Suann Laurent, raising $3,730.


Third Fundraiser: The third top fundraiser wins a stay and play package for two at Kenosee and White Bear golf Courses, with a hotel room at the Kenosee Inn overlooking Kenosee Lake. The third highest fundraiser is Jerry Palagian, who raised $3,320.

In all, eight golfers raised over $3,000 each.

The Health Foundation extends a very sincere thank you to each and every golfer for their tremendous effort to raise funds to improve healthcare in our communities.

Most Pledges Collected: The golfer who collected the largest number of pledges received a beautiful gift basket, courtesy of SecurTek. The winner is Ken Chyz who collected 122 pledges.

Over $500 Draw: For the third year we had a draw for all golfers raising over $500 in pledges. The prize this year was a night accommodations at the Delta Regina. The winner is Jack Powell.

Audio Warehouse Pledge Level Prizes

  • Those who collected over $550 in pledges won a Optex digital picture frame valued at $99.95. A total of 22 golfers raised over $550 this year.
  • Those who collected over $1,000 in pledges received Sony wireless headphones valued at $249.99. This prize was won by 11 individuals.
  • Those who collected over $2,000 in pledges received a Sony DVD recorder with 160 Gb hard drive valued at $499.95. This was won by six golfers.
  • Those who collected over $3,000 in pledges received a Boston Acoustics micro-system CD player, valued at $599.99. This was won by eight golfers.


Top Fundraising Team: Since this is a fundraising tournament, with all of the pledges raised going back into our local healthcare, we recognized the team that raised the most funds. Sponsored by the Credit Unions of East Central Saskatchewan, a trophy is presented to the team that raises the most money. In addition to the trophy, which will be on display in the Yorkton branch of Cornerstone Credit Union, each team member will receive a personalized picture and certificate indicating they raised the highest amount of funds in the 2008 Charity golf Classic. Kevin Lukey presented the trophy to the top fundraising team consisting of Kris Sapara, Kim Sapara, Dave Nussbaumer and Laurie Fischer. The team raised $12,351.


Media Trophy: This year we resumed the presentation of another trophy, the Media Trophy. This trophy is awarded to the member of the media that raises the most money. The recipient is Ken Chyz of the News-Review, receiving the trophy from tournament chair Jerry Jemieff and fund raising chair Sheila Johnson.

Volunteer Fundraiser: Also recognized for the first time this year is the volunteer who raised the largest amount of money, Sheila Johnson.

Mulligan Draw: The winner of the mulligan draw was Bert Hysie, who received a clock radio.

Prizes were awarded for various golf-related skills competitions.


Lowest Team Score: $50 gift certificate from Best Western Parkland Inn for use in the dining room. The winning team was Jody Bartel, Kevin Ross, Jimmy Dean and Neal Matechuk.


Most Honest Team Score: Nortel hats and golf towels. The winning team was Brenda Pasloski, Wade Windjack, Bryan Bayda and Joanne Pidperyhora.


Sand Pitching Contest, sponsored by Securtek Monitoring: Nissan blankets. Winners were Jerry Palagian, Brenda Haacke, Brad Tokarchuk and Karen Fransishyn (missing from photo).


Putting Contest, sponsored by Dick DeRyk’s UncommonSense Web Solutions: $40 Boston Pizza gift certificate. The winning team was Ron Wrubell, Susan Wrubell, Dwight Ruf and Tammy Ruf.


Long Drives, sponsored by SherRing Gold: $125 gift certificate at SherRing Gold. Men’s winner is Geoff Grodecki. Women’s winner is Lynda Ziglo.


Closest To The Line, sponsored by JohnsonDiversey: Hole 7 men's winner receives a set of glasses from Expertech. The winner was Mark Balog. Hole 7 women's winner receives a set of glasses from Expertech. The winner is Susan Wrubell.
