At-large donations

Most donations received by The Health Foundation are specifically intended for campaigns being conducted to purchase high-priority equipment required by the health region.

However, The Health Foundation is committed to honouring the wishes of all its donors, including those who wish to have their donation dedicated to specific needs or facilities. Those donations are recognized here when they are received.

TD Bank Financial Group continues support of scholarships

Jonas Haywood, Area Manager for TD Canada Trust, announced a $10,000 donation to The Health Foundation’s Scholarship Fund on April 10, 2008. This brings TD Bank Financial Group’s total contributions for this scholarship program to $70,000. (See photo at right.)

"The Board of The Health Foundation feel extremely fortunate to have the tremendous support the TD Bank Financial Group has given our Education and Scholarship Program," said Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation. "This is the seventh consecutive year the TD Bank has donated $10,000 to our education and scholarship program, which is simply outstanding and unprecedented support for The Health Foundation.

"Seven years ago the TD Bank Financial Group joined with The Health Foundation to provide educational opportunities to the employees of Sunrise Health Region. TD Bank Financial Group has provided scholarships for educational courses that contribute to the professional development of nurses or other practicing caregivers at regional and community hospitals or other healthcare facilities,” said Mr. Haywood.

"Over the past six years 46 individuals have received education awards totaling $57,000 from the TD Bank Financial Group. In addition, last year the TD Bank Financial Group and The Health Foundation sponsored a three-day workshop for 20 nurses and other practicing caregivers who work with and assist the rehabilitation of patients recovering from stroke and heart attack. Rather than sending nurses out to a conference, we brought the conference here, which allowed more people to take the specialized training than would otherwise be possible. It is rewarding to see that this program does improve the quality of care that can be provided," said Mr. Haywood.

"TD Bank Financial Group believes in investing in the future by helping to ensure that nurses and other practicing caregivers have access to funds to upgrade their skills or further their education."
