Dialysis Equipment Campaign

Hemodialysis is a treatment for people suffering kidney failure. This treatment cleans the blood and removes wastes and excess water from the body. Normally, healthy kidneys do this work.

The Health Foundation raised the $135,000 needed to purchase four top quality dialysis machines. This allowed the number of dialysis patients to double to 16. The purchase of top-of-the line equipment allowed us to double the number of patients again in 2007, when funding was provided for an additional shift of medical personnel. At of the beginning of 2008 the health region is providing hemodialysis service to 32 patients.

Dialysis treatment takes four to five hours, and it is very exhausting for patients. Prior to the purchase of dialysis machines for local service patients in east central Saskatchewan had to travel to Regina three times a week in order to receive dialysis treatment.

Hemodialysis machines have made a huge difference in the quality of life of dialysis patients.
